It might be the latest that I’ve ever done this, but our tree is finally up and decorated as of December 13. I guess we won’t have to cancel Christmas, which I had seriously considered doing this year. Work, sickness from 2 weeks before Thanksgiving til now, and crabby kids have put a damper on this season. But, we now have a little Christmas cheer in our house and hopefully it’ll just keep getting more fun over the next few weeks.

Hutch and Briar writing Christmas cards:
Here’s a preview of Hutch’s winter performance :
And, it was also Briar’s first day of soccer school!!!! She wasn’t quite as excited as we thought she’d be, but I think she’ll warm up soon!
Halloween was rainy in Seattle (in the morning), but our little costumed Cockrells had a good time anyway. We started the celebration a few nights before by trying to carve pumpkins. It didn’t work well when Briar was awake. :)
On Halloween morning, I tried to dress up our PeaCock(rell), but she hated the costume, so I had Buck dig out Hutch’s unworn Elmo costume from two years ago and it worked out great!
In the morning, Hutch’s school did trick or treating around the complex. It was pouringgggg and while the kids had a lot of fun, the parents were ready for it to be over quickly.
In the afternoon, we went to Kirkland Parkplace and trick-or-treated at the stores like last year. Then, we went home and had pizza with Grandma and Grandpa who’d driven up from Portland and answered the doorbell about three times, so we sadly have a TON of candy leftover.
Today is Valentine’s Day. Probably the least romantic one Buck and I will ever experience since I sincerely hope that our future life doesn’t get much more hectic than 2 kids under 4. And/or include a week straight of barfing before a day that’s supposed to be filled with romance. Lucky for me, I have a super husband who still went out of his way to get flowers and a card, despite all of the craziness of this past week.
If you look closely below, you can see the H-U-T-C-H that Hutch wrote.
And this was the precious card we got from the Crawford clan.
Here’s to lots more romantic Valentine’s Day celebrations in the future!!
Yes, there’s been a long, long delay in blog posts.
Yes, I had a plan to remedy that. It was to take the Thursday and Friday of this week off of work for “Mama-time” after these last two weeks of holiday “vacation” with the wee ones.
Yes, the Universe is once again intervening and dealing me a shitty hand. Briar has been the sickest she’s ever been for the past four days, running temps of up to 103.5 and crying a lot. She was diagnosed with 2 ear infections on Monday and her fever finally broke today (Weds), but she’s still screaming bloody murder at random points throughout the day. So I’m not sure I can take her to daycare tomorrow. Thus, I am not sure the blog will get updated.
In the meantime, here’s the first post of the year, our lovely dinner of black-eyed peas, greens (kale, not collard) and cornbread. Plus, for mama, copies amounts of Winter Jack Whiskey.
We wanted to head to a pumpkin patch today since it’s the last weekend day before Halloween, but Mother Nature is not cooperating. So, we headed to the Seattle Aquarium because they were doing some Halloween-themed things and it’s inside. Well, the Halloween stuff looked like this, so we had to skeedaddle past this area and into the fish stuff:
Hutch had an ok time, but he’s just not that into fish and wildlife, it seems. We’ve never been able to spend more than an hour here. Here are some of my favorite pics form the morning.
In this photo (below), he was trying to listen for the ocean in a shell.
After the aquarium, we headed to Red Robin where I got this cute snap of Briar and her Papa. :)
Lest this look magical and awesome, it wasn’t an easy experience with two kids (one of whom is highly spirited and the other is growing into a little lady who knows what she wants and tells us that loudly). It ended with a Briar meltdown about needing to eat, Mama walking back to the car with her alone, Hutch refusing to eat his lunch but demanding ice cream, etc…. But, we got it and experienced life, made some memories and that’s something we love to do on the weekend.
